OUR FUTURE

Our future is expressed in the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan developed
over a six month period in 2007. Our goals are to “improve the quality of
life for our neighbors through developing grassroots leaders and fostering
involvement among community members, embracing our diversity and preserving our
rich culture, encouraging residents to value and engage in educational
opportunities, promoting growth and business diversity within the area economy,
and developing affordable and attractive housing for residents in a safe and
attractive environment. We accomplish this through collaborating with
neighborhood and citywide organizations.”
We will
accomplish this by focusing in seven areas:
1.
Family
Strengthening: Identify the strengths of families and neighbors and engage
them in positive ways to reach their hopes and dreams.

In 2008, the awarding of Super Bowl XLVI, in 2012, to Indianapolis brought help to the near eastside. The Super Bowl Host Committee made a commitment to create a legacy project on the near eastside. A $9 million practice field for the NFC team will be built at Arsenal Tech High School. The intent is that after the game, the turf will be moved to the ATHS football field and the building will be available for IPS and community activities. Details of the buildings use still need to be worked out. In addition, the Host Committee has looked at the Quality of Life Plan and is looking for ways in which it can help implement the plan. This will bring Super Bowl sized support, attention, and resources to the near eastside that would not have occurred if not for the generosity of the Super Bowl Host Committee. When the world comes to our door step in 2012, they’ll see a vibrant future for the Near Eastside of Indianapolis.
